Monica Stambrini

Monica Stambrini was born in California in 1970 to Italian parents. She trained in Italy and graduated from the Civica Scuola di Cinema in Milan. She lives and works in Rome.

A filmmaker and author, she directed her first feature film, Benzina (2002), presented at the Toronto and Turin Film Festivals and distributed internationally. Her subsequent documentaries and film projects have been shown in major international contexts, including the Venice International Film Festival.

In 2014 she founded the collective Le Ragazze del Porno, a project investigating sexuality and the female gaze through cinema.

In 2024 she presented the documentary Tenga duro signorina! Isabella Ducrot Unlimited at Giornate degli Autori – Venice Days, within the Venice Film Festival.

Since 2023 she has developed a painting practice alongside her film work, pursuing a figurative investigation centered on the private dimension of the gaze.
