Graduated in Biological Sciences at the “La Sapienza” University of Rome, Roberto Nistri began his career as a nature photographer, taking an interest in wild landscapes and life in the water. Later he broadened his professional perspective to documentary, travel and portraiture photography.

Winner of international photographic competitions, as a professional photographer he collaborates with numerous Italian and foreign magazines and periodicals, including “Airone”, “Class”, “L’Espresso”, “National Geographic Italia”, “Traveler”, “Donna Moderna”, “Il Venerdì di Repubblica”, and with numerous publishing houses, including De Vecchi, Fabbri, Giunti and Mondadori. Through the international agencies “Alamy.com” and Dpa – Picture Alliance, hundreds of his photos are published all over the world, on websites, magazines and books.

For years he has been organizing successful photography courses, slideshows and workshops, both in Italy and abroad. In his numerous travels he focuses his attention on the documentation of ethnic groups and peoples threatened by progress and by particular political-social conditions, an attention that takes him to Ethiopia, Kenya, India, Northern Ireland, Burkina Faso, Lebanon, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Macedonia and Albania.

In 2013 he exhibited at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome the photographic project “In the Wild World of Writers”, for which he created, with a “naturalistic” attitude, ninety-nine portraits of the most famous Italian storytellers. The exhibition is subsequently presented in Forte Marghera (Venice), in Pordenone and in Villa Contarini (Padua), accompanied by a catalog published by Palombi Editore.

In 2013 he won the first prize in the “Best Single Image in Portfolio / Vanishing & Emerging Culture” category of the “Travel Photographer of the Year Award 2013” and is recommended in the “Portfolio – Monochromal” category. Between 2014 and 2015 his work is featured in the traveling exhibition “Royal Photographic Society, International Print Exhibition 157” (the Royal Albert Hall in London is among the five prestigious locations in the United Kingdom). In 2014 he received the third prize in the “Professional People Life Style” category at the prestigious “Moscow International Foto Awards ’14 Competition”.
